In this era of competition, it is more than necessary to unwind and let go of all the darkness that gets accumulated in our heads, and what better way to do that than having a hobby?

With too much emphasis on studies and academics these days, students rarely get time to pursue their hobbies. Not just students, but people with jobs also find it hard to give time to relaxation with the strenuous working hours. But as important as it is to study and build a career, a tired and unhealthy brain cannot work in the desired direction for long. It therefore, becomes important to MAKE time for hobbies that help us to get back on track.

For example, I find solace in writing or poetry when I am stressed out, which is quite often as being a twelfth grader in India is the toughest job. Other days, I might just hum a song, or attend my Bharatanatyam classes on the weekends. When I feel like it, I might even sketch something out as a stress buster. Hobbies may not get enough credit, but I feel that my hobbies have shaped me in ways academics never could.

Finding a hobby might be one of the toughest jobs on earth. There is so much to choose from! But the advantages of having a hobby are much greater than the effort it takes to find one. Hobbies make us relax in a way no massage or nap ever can. Hobbies help us let go of what is troubling our hearts in a creative way. Who knows, maybe one day you too will become a great in the field of your hobby!

Take a look at Mark Zuckerberg, the extremely wealthy creator of Facebook. It was just a hobby when he created a small social website for students at Harvard University. But then it blossomed into a multibillion-dollar global company. Today, his net worth is estimated to be just under $70 billion. Or take a look at Arthur Davidson and William Harley who had extreme interest in motorcycles. Their company, Harley-Davidson is one of the biggest motorcycle brands in the world today.

Hobbies are not just a way to unwind and increase concentration, they can also become a way of socializing. One may want to take classes or attend classes in their chosen hobby. This is a certified way of socializing with people having similar interests and making friends.

With so many websites and apps coming up to connect academic tutors with students, WizHob is a step in the right direction. We need more emphasis on the extracurricular because as important academics are, real character building happens when we do what we actually like to. Kudos to WizHob for connecting teachers and students with the same passion!
